Officer of the Year

 


The 2002 annual officer of the year award was presented to Brian T. Cloonan of the East Lampeter Township police Department. Officer Cloonan was selected by his fellow officers to be the recipient of the award. He is a four year veteran of the police department and is assigned to the patrol division. Our Sertoma club presented him two checks, each for $100.00, one check for his personal use and the other to his favorite charity.


Leave A Legacy


Mark Vergenes, a Financial Consultant with Leave A Legacy spoke to the club about the gift of a lifetime. Leave A Legacy is a program of national committee on planned giving through lifetime gifts, wills or other estate plans. Leave A Legacy works in partnership with civic-minded volunteers and nonprofit organizations. We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give


Life Line Screening


Tammy Bulter presented a program for Protecting your Health Protect your Life. Life Line Screening is the nations leading mobile vascular screening service providing reliable low cost preventive health screening.


Service To Mankind Award


A Service To Mankind Award was presented to Robert J. Barber. In 1981, Bob started volunteering at the Community Hospital of Lancaster. He works as a volunteer at the hospital every week putting in 6 to 8 hours a day and sometimes more. Congratulations to Bob Barber for this well deserved award.


Fund Raiser


A fund raiser was held in conjunction with Amelias Grocery Outlet on Lincoln Highway East. Grilled chicken filet sandwiches along with a choice of drinks and potato chips were served. Amelias supplied the food, equipment and location for the fund raiser.


Salvation Army


Dean Seiler, Resource Development Director, informed the club about the functions and the programs that are being provided by The Salvation Army, especially for the Lancaster Area. He also discussed the history and philosophy of the world organization and how the Salvation Army works in conjunction with services provided by other organizations.


Ephrata Community Hospital


Elaine Musser, Director of Program Development, discussed Ephrata Community Hospital’s involvement in improving their service to the community. Providing health care for the local aging population is very challenging.


Welsh Mountain Medical and Dental Center


Kelly Saylor, Director of Community Relations, discussed Welsh Mountain Medical and Dental Center’s services provided to the community, especially for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. The center is basically supported by donations. Service is provided by a sliding fee scale which is based on a family’s household income.


Sight and Sound Theatre


David Newpauer, General Manager Sight and Sound Theatre, explained the production and teamwork that is required to produce their shows. They employ 450 to 500 people. 850,000 people visited the theatre in 2001. Their purpose is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to sow the word of God into the lives of their customers, guests and fellow workers by visualizing and dramatizing the scriptures.
