Club History

30 Years of Community Service

The Eastern Lancaster County Sertoma Club was formulated and chartered in June 1973, under the watchful eye of the Willow Street Sertoma Club. Fourteen of the original 43 members continue to be active sertomans of the club, and 9 are life members. This shows the true dedication of the club and its founding charter members to uphold the community spirit.

Eastern Lancaster County Sertoma has held many high honors in Sertoma International. However winning awards from international is not as important as knowing the club has helped to make our community a better place to live. The club has sponsored various fund raising activities the last twenty-six years, but none has produced more community participation, awareness, and spirit than the club’s annual auction. Most of the revenue the club uses to fund community projects has been raised through the auction. Other sponsorship activities include an annual golf tournament and food sales for Lancaster Hunting and Fishing Sportsman Show. The monies the club raised has gone to individuals, families and agencies which normally are not supported by Government groups. For example, the club gives annually to the Christ Home for Children in Paradise, Lancaster Water Street Rescue Mission, S. June Smith Center, Conestoga Valley and Pequea Valley Educational Scholarships, Leola and Intercourse Library programs, Occupational Development Center, National Heritage Program and Sertoma Foundation. During 1999, the club contributed $14000 to help develop the "Tots Play Area" in the new East Lampeter Township’s Flory Park. In the twenty-nine years of service to the community, Eastern Lancaster County Sertoma has raised and contributed over a quarter of a million dollars to the community.

When Sertoma International began back at the turn of the century in 1917 the founding forefathers set out to establish an organization which would create high principles for all persons representing Sertoma. Our former colleagues would be proud to know that Eastern Lancaster County Sertoma has chartered that course in the past and will continue SERVICE TO MANKIND.
